Virtues Golf Club – Nashport, OH

Architect: Arthur Hills (1999)

Set among forested hills east of Columbus, The Virtues Golf Club stands as one of Ohio’s premier public golf experiences. Arthur Hills routed the course across dramatic valleys and broad ridgelines, allowing the natural elevation shifts to dictate rhythm and strategy. Fairways bend through mature trees, bunkers frame sightlines without overwhelming them, and greens sit naturally against the terrain. The experience feels adventurous but never forced, big, scenic, and quietly refined. With its expansive practice areas and full-service clubhouse, Virtues offers a true destination feel within easy reach of Columbus.

Denison Golf Club – Granville, OH

Architect: Donald Ross (1924); Restored (2017)

Denison Golf Club is a quintessential Donald Ross design, subtle, strategic, and rooted in the land’s natural contours. The restoration returned clarity to its 63 bunkers and reestablished Ross’s clean lines into rolling, elevated green complexes. Approach shots are the heart of the challenge, with greens that fall away, rise gently, or tilt just enough to reward precise placement. The course carries both historical weight and architectural integrity, offering a classic, thoughtful test that feels timeless without being intimidating. It remains one of the region’s most significant public layouts.

Cumberland Trail Golf Club – Pataskala, OH

Architect: Hurdzan/Fry (2000)

Located just east of Columbus, Cumberland Trail weaves through gently rolling terrain accented by mature trees, native grasses, and well-placed water features. The Hurdzan/Fry design emphasizes clean sightlines and thoughtfully contoured fairways that promote strategic play without excessive difficulty. Bunkering is bold but purposeful, guiding decisions from tee to green and giving each hole its own character. The round unfolds with a steady, enjoyable rhythm, approachable for casual players yet engaging for those who appreciate modern parkland architecture integrated seamlessly with its surroundings.
